Creationists preaching to my Gmail ?? [Nov. 15th, 2007|09:31 pm]
I've been receiving Creationist propaganda websites in my Gmail "clips" recently - I have the clips in my gmail RSS feed customized, but i still get the odd "sponsored" link. Here are some gems:

Bible Study, Genesis 1-11 - http://www.accuracyingenesis.com - New Perspectives and Translations for the Genesis 1

Evolution is a lie - http://www.prophecyandtruth.com - What does science evidence prove? Is evolution in the bible?

(note that they're pretty much hype for obscure writers that can't seem to get published to save their lives)

I just find it weird that these links would be coming to me. I understand that Google probably tracks my web-browsing habits, but but why not send me links to ATHEIST propaganda since I browse sites like RichardDawkins.net, Point of Inquiry and Amazon for books by other Atheist/Cog-Sci/Evolution authors.

Anyone else having similar experiences with Gmail?

Canada's REAL team [May. 31st, 2007|07:11 pm]
A quick tally of the Canadian members of each team in the Stanley Cup Final '07:

Ottawa Senators: 14
Anaheim Mighty Ducks: 19 (20 if you count the back-up goalie, but you probably shouldn't)

that and my buddy Teemu has never won a cup, yeah i'm cheering for the Ducks. sorry.

hey, the last 2 seasons i cheered for the "Canadian" team in the play-offs only to have them lose to a team from dah soowuth.

game on. drop the freakin puck.

MySpace is dead... [Mar. 23rd, 2007|05:26 pm]
Facebook, a fresh start

for those of you sick of the random retards, pathetic bands and relentless spam on MySpace, Facebook is pretty cool. it seems to be a bit more personal and professional. i've made a vow to only "friend" people i've actually met. if this means you, looks me ups.

EDIT: oh, wait... it's already made the news so i guess it's not cool anymore.

Ayria on the road [Jan. 19th, 2007|10:41 pm]
huzzah.... chillin' out with some downtime in SF. got a few days to kill before the next show and we roll on up the coast. more dates keep coming up, so here's the latest scoop:

the shows so far have been WICKED. the Crüx is a fun bunch and have been putting on amazing shows. we've also been getting a great response, very nice considering most of the cities we've hit for the first time on this tour.

keep your eyes peeled for us coming down the road atchya...

help me get my book-learnin' on... [Nov. 16th, 2006|06:58 pm]
i've re-discovered reading. i dig non-fiction specifically, and want to find books on the various subjects:

Biographies: Nikolai Tesla, Genghis Khan, Attila the Hun
European history: pre-Rennaisance, non-Roman. mostly Germanic and Slavic cultures
Middle-East studies: history of the Isreal state specifically
Anthropology: Human, and theories of future evolution
Politics: a good concise read on Communism and the different schools of thought

if anyone could recommend really good books on any of those subjects, that would be sweet- would really help round out the Xmas wishlist.
just picked on up called "The Darkside of Man" about the evolution of male violence. always interested in stuff like that.

any other cool subjects to read up on? me like learn and think gud.

Dubstep Party - Sat Oct 21st [Oct. 20th, 2006|03:15 pm]
anyone wanting to get a serious deep groove on tomorrow night HAS to check this shit:

(click to here mixes by some of the local DJs)

i've been to a few of these parties this year and they are MASSIVE. the other ones featured DJs from out of town, as far away as the UK, but fear not cause the local DJ Sek (the mastermind behind these parties) rinses out the best shit and mixes just as good if not better than any other international talent.

i highly recommend it for anyone into dnb/jungle/house but is looking for something new. this is the next step.

unfortunately, i'll be out of town for this so i'm trying to pimp it as much as possible so the next one will happen soon.

stay safe.

too much good music at once! [Sep. 12th, 2006|04:44 pm]
two of my favourite bands are releasing new albums today.

TV on the Radio
The Mars Volta

yes, this is September 12th, not December 25th... or April 15th...

making a b-line to HMV on the way home.

EDIT: ok, i am NOT entering the track names for TV on the Radio "Return to Cookie Mountain" to CDDB. someone else do it for me so i can rip this up.

but it is as yummy as the title suggests.

SF Battlewounds [Aug. 28th, 2006|08:55 pm]
this is what i get for partying too hard in San Francisco:

the week itself was very fun, despite having abit of a head cold. too bad it had to end on a somewhat sour-note as i became an unwilling participant in "Bum Fights XIII: SF SNEAK ATTACK!"

after having a late breakfast on Sunday afternoon, i found myself very hungover standing at the corner of McAllister and Larkin with [info]blepharisma, [info]kittenflug and [info]musicwerks when my skull was rattled pretty hard. i turn around to see Mike steppin' between me and some twitchy lookin homeless dude who had his fists up. Mike chased the critter away as the girls, slightly freaked, out told me i was bleeding.

i had to ask "Where?" i honestly thought the dude had hit me in the back of the head, i had no idea he had clocked me in the cheek. he must've been running full-tilt cause all i heard was two foot steps before his fist was upside my skull.

get back to the hotel, the hotel managers call the cops after Steph and Jenn frantically asked where the nearest clinic and/or hospital was. two officers come look me over, get the description from Jenn (i had no idea what he looked like, i didn't have my glasses or contacts on). the cops leave only to call 20 minutes later - they nabbed the guy at the VERY SAME CORNER he attacked me from. this dude was so fried he didn't even leave the scene of the crime.

so now he gets to spend about 72 hours in the psyche ward, after which he'll be unleashed back onto the streets of SF - according to the cops.

from my 3 visits to SF, I knew the town had it's fair share of psychos wandering the streets, definitely more so than Toronto. i figured it was just a matter of time before me and my crew encountered this sorta shit. i hate to harp on it and say "i'm never going back to SF - or any other American city" but i'll definitely think twice before heading south of the border again. US cities have a serious problem with whackos on the streets, something that needs to be addressed ASAP.

i'm just glad Mike was there to have my back. i owe you BIG, bro.
i'll try and post a more positive re-cap of the 10 days in Cali, including stuff from the React[ivat]ion excursion. but for now, check out [info]maxmin or maybe [info]blaugirl's journal. i'm gonna crash and get rid of the rest of this headache...

San Fran... [Aug. 24th, 2006|05:18 pm]
so, i'm a little sick (got a head cold after Disney Land) but React[ivat]ion SF was a success! Thanks to Suki, Moe! and Allan (right?) for coming out. sounds and video will come soon after we get back to Toronto.

but in the meantime, Bay Area represent for Ayria:

see you there...

ReAct[ivat]ion SF - Tonight, now with better directions! [Aug. 22nd, 2006|08:52 pm]
In San Francisco, getting ready to do some drumming in a few hours! Sorry for the last minute update, but it's been brought to my attention that directions aren't 100% clear, so here's better details:

"Limits of Horizon II"

Front & Clay Streets, then up the EAST stairwell heading NORTH.
look to your left when you're up there.

I already got my hands on some sticks with rubber mallet-ends on them - thanks to BUCKETMAN! Local SFers probably know him, I met him today when sculpture hunting. Maybe he'll make it too!

Hope to see you there.

cheers,
Joe

"And if you DOOOoooo... and IF you DOOOoooOOO...!!!"

alas, Lt Steve, we hardly knew ye.
actually - i had NO idea who Bruno Kirby was till they showed his pic on the news this morning. He was just one of those actors that made me go "Hey.. it's THAT guy!"

Langsterrific! [Aug. 9th, 2006|12:19 am]
ok, trying not to get too excited cause the transaction has completed, and i haven't even got the shipping quote yet, buuuuut...

I just landed me a 2006 Specialized Langster on eBay!

couldn't resist... me bro Pete thought he might be able to get me one cheap at the end of Summer through his work, but saw this deal and told me "go for it".

it's already geared up for fixed-gear, i can flip it to just a single speed. think i'll try fixed tho, just need the clip shoes.
a treat to myself after having that 90s Specialized Carbon Fibre Allez LIFTED just a month after my other brother slapped it together for me.

hmmm... does anyone out there know or care what i'm talking about? scary to think i have more of a bike-fetish than a music-gear fetish lately. guess which hobby keeps the love handles off better tho.

now someone talk me out of having this guy send the new bike to SF for me so I can ride it around there for a week... eeep.

bike rentals in SF? [Aug. 7th, 2006|03:17 pm]
a shout-out to the folks in the San Fran area - anyone know a good place to rent a bike?
did some research online and found a few joints right by Golden Gate park that look good. just want to cruise through the park and possibly across the bridge when we're there for our trip - there in TWO WEEKS! sweet...

React[ivat]ion SF 2006 - new Website online...

I've put together a new website for the React[ivat]ion project, just a start but here it is:

React[ivat]ion Online

What kick-started this was the plan to bring React[ivat]ion to San Francisco the week of August 21st, 2006. I'll find myself in that city for a trip and it looks to have some pretty interesting sculptures! If you are from San Francisco, I'd like to hear from you - so give me a shout!

peace,
joe

choosing sides in the Isreal/Lebanon conflict is like arguing on the internet.... yadda yadda...

"Isreal out of Lebanon!" - much easier said than done. i call on anyone who shouts that to call up a proper peace plan that both sides can agree on.
